The Period of PURPLE Crying

What is the Period of PURPLE Crying?

The Period of PURPLE Crying starts when your baby is around 2 weeks old and generally ends when they reach their 3- or 4-month birthday. This idea that it’s a finite period — in other words, it has an end — is meant to give new parents hope that the unexplained crying won’t last forever.

Why is this important?

The program approaches Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS)/ Abuse Head Trauma (AHT) and infant abuse prevention by helping parents and caregivers understand the frustrating features of crying in normal, healthy infants that can lead to shaking or abuse.

What PURPLE means.
